It was founded by Professor Miguel Ángel Briceño Gil. Among its objectives are the following: Generate knowledge in the area of the Social Sciences that can be applied to the problem of regional development. Elaborate specific projects that lead to solutions for regional problems. Promote the investigative spirit related to the problematic of Sustainable Integrated Development in instructors and students. Organize and strengthen Postgraduate programs linked to the area of Sustainable Integrated Development. Encourage the organization and realization of events, workshops, seminars, colloquiums, panels, symposiums, conferences, congresses and others; where researchers belonging to the CIDIS participate, as well as invited researchers from distinct areas of knowledge essential to sustainable integrated development. Encourage and support activities related to the development of communities in the region. Promote interdisciplinary relationships within the institution and also inter-institutionally on a regional and national level with the aim of exchanging information essential to the objectives of the CIDIS.
