| dc.description.abstract | El chimó es una variedad de tabaco de mascar típica de muchos pueblos andinos. A éste, se le atribuyen efectos inhibitorios sobre biopelículas y caries dentales según las creencias populares. Al ser la biopelícula dental, el origen para otras patologías intraorales y con la finalidad de estudiar el efecto del chimó sobre la conformación bacteriana de esta, se evaluó el índice de O`Leary y se realizaron análisis microbiológicos comparativos a muestras de placa dental, recolectadas en cuatro momentos distintos, de 5 individuos consumidores de chimó (grupo problema) y 5 no consumidores de chimó (grupo control). Las muestras fueron disgregadas e inoculadas en Agar Infusión Cerebro Corazón para determinar cargas bacterianas totales aeróbicas y microaerófilas; y en Agar Rogosa y Agar Mitis Salivarius con Bacitracina y Sacarosa para el recuento de Lactobacillus spp y Streptococcusmutans respectivamente. Se observaron diferencias significativas entre las cargas bacterianas aeróbicas totales de ambos grupos, sin registrarse efecto inhibitorio sobre S. mutans para el grupo problema. Resultó difícil recuperar Lactobacillus spp bajo las condiciones empleadas. Los resultados sugieren que el chimó no inhibe la formación de la biopelícula dental, ni posee efecto anticariogénico. Es recomendable realizar estudios prospectivos con mayor número de muestras que consideren factores socioepidemiológicos. | es_VE |

| dc.description.abstract1 | The chimó is a variety of smokeless tobacco typical frommany towns in Los Andes. According to popular believes, some inhibitory effects on biofilms and caries are attributed to chimó. As dental biofilm is the origin for other intraoral pathologies and with the purpose of studying the effect of chimó on bacterial conformation of it, we evaluated the O`Leary index and performed microbiological comparative analyses to samples of dental plaque collected in four different times from 5 chimó consumers (problem group) and 5 non consumers (control group). Samples were disgregated and inoculated in Brain Heart Infusion Agar to determine total aerobic bacterian charges and in Rogosa Agar and Mitis Salivarius Agar with Bacitracin and Sucrose for the new count of Lactobacillus spp and Streptococcus mutans respectively. Significant differences were observed between the total aerobic bacterial charges of both groups without signs of inhibitory effect on S. mutans for the problem group. It was hard to recover Lactobacillus spp under the conditions of this experiment. Results suggest that chimó does not inhibit either the formation of dental biofilm nor has a anticariogenic effect. It is recommended to conduct prospective studies with a larger number of samples taking into account socioepidemiologic aspects. | es_VE |
