dc.description.abstractEn los estudios sobre historia de la ciencia en Venezuela el período colonial siempre representa un reto, pues dada la complejidad cultural del momento y las pocas fuentes documentales, se hace difícil tener una visión clara y precisa del pensamiento científico. Sin embargo, es importante su estudio ya que es un período clave para entender el inicio de la ciencia en Venezuela. El siguiente artículo, tomando como base fuentes históricas documentales de primera y segunda mano, intenta reconstruir el inicio en Venezuela a finales del siglo XVIII de una de las ciencias clave en la revolución científica, a saber, la física experimental. Bajo un enfoque histórico y cultural, se muestran y analizan los ámbitos donde esta ciencia emergió y tomó forma, considerando que no se desarrolló como área independiente, sino como un conocimiento entretejido con la matemática y la técnica, expresadas en instituciones importantes como la Real y Pontificia Universidad Caracas y la Academia de Geometría y Fortificación de Nicolás de Castro en Caracas.es_VE

dc.description.abstract1In studies on history of science in Venezuela the colonial period always represents a challenge, because given the cultural complexity of moment and the few documentary sources; it is difficult to have a clear and precise view of scientific thought. However, it is important to study that historical period because it is key for understanding the beginning of science in Venezuela. The following paper, based on documentary historical sources of first and second hand, tries to reconstruct the start in Venezuela at the end of the eighteenth century of one of the key science in the scientific revolution, this is, experimental physics. With a historical and cultural approach, we show and analyze the fields where this science emerged and took form, considering that it was not developed as an independent field, but as knowledge connected with mathematics and technique; these expressed in important institutions such as the Royal and Pontifical University of Caracas and the Academies of Geometry and Fortification of Nicolás de Castro in Caracas city.es_VE
