| dc.description.abstract | Como era costumbre, esta festividad viene a suplantar y a darle sentido, desde
una nueva mirada religiosa, a celebraciones y ritos muy antiguos y de amplia
aceptación popular. Por esto, San Juan Bautista se convierte en uno de los santos
más populares del panteón católico. Así cuando San Juan ingresó al panteón
afrovenezolano, el negro lo alumbró y renació con un aspecto híbrido cristiano
y africano, y por un extraño proceso de simbología intuitiva lo devolvió a su
función inicial de bautista. En torno a él hay agua por todas partes: agua de
lluvia y agua del baño ritual, las mismas aguas apreciadas como intermediarias
entre lo sagrado y lo profano de las culturas andinas. En este artículo se analiza
la presencia del Bautista y de esta festividad en los Andes venezolanos. | es_VE |

| dc.description.abstract1 | As usual, this festivity comes to replace and give meaning, from a new religious
point of view, to very old celebrations and rites of wide popular acceptance.
For this reason, St. John the Baptist became one of the most popular saints
in the Catholic pantheon. Thus, when St. John entered the Afro-Venezuelan
pantheon, the black man gave birth to him and reborn him with a hybrid
Christian and African aspect, and by a strange process of intuitive symbology
returned him to his initial function as a baptist. Around it there is water
everywhere: rainwater and ritual bath water, the same waters appreciated as
intermediaries between the sacred and the profane in Andean cultures. This
article analyzes the presence of the Baptist and this festivity in the Venezuelan
