dc.description.abstract1By 2025, the Venezuelan STI (science, technology, and innovation) system had experienced a sustained contraction of resources, deterioration of laboratories, and migration of human capital, with direct effects on agricultural research, which is strategic for food security. For this reason, we proposed to analyze the scientific productivity and structural barriers faced by agricultural researchers in Venezuela using the 2025 ONCTI-ONCA Survey, considering sensitivity to nonresponse. Our methodology was based on a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive-analytical study. The population (N) consisted of 4,731 researchers; a stratified probability sample (n) of 831 was selected (95% confidence level; ±3.1% error). This survey was conducted between June-September 2025. The variables and areas of work included participation in funded projects, international collaboration, and productivity (articles published in ranges). Proportions with 95% confidence intervals, conditional rates (excluding nonresponse), and extreme scenarios for non-response were estimated. Animal Production (33.3%) and Biotechnology (25.2%) predominate. Only 41.4% report funded projects and 32.8% international collaboration; the non-response rate reaches 30.3%. Among those who responded, these rates rise to 59.4% and 47.1%, respectively. In terms of productivity, 53.2% publish 1–3 articles; 16.5% publish 4–6; and 5.4% publish more than 10. The plausible average number of articles per researcher, under explicit assumptions for open/non-disaggregated categories, ranges from 1.83 to 3.94. Therefore, based on the above, the ecosystem exhibits thematic concentration, fragmented funding, moderate international integration, and a very small, highly productive elite, consistent with a loss of senior critical mass and editorial restrictions. It is suggested that a multi-year seed fund, diaspora outreach programs, support for Open Science/APC, and the restoration of critical laboratories be implemented.es_VE
